The overriding theme of this album is that the Church, especially the Western Church, has slowly drifted away from sound doctrine and instead has embraced a feel-good, ear-tickling, watered-down doctrine based on pop-psychology, self-improvement, and narcissism. I’m not saying this is true for all congregations, or even most. However, it seems to be true enough that this has become the image that is presented to unbelievers.

about
“Up and Died” takes that theme to the logical conclusion that if we keep putting off what God is calling us to do then eventually we will run out of time.
lyrics
Up and Died
His feet hit the floor before the sun lit the sky
Been saving for this day his whole predictable life
He got the gold watch now there’s no more wishin’
Time to dust off his dreams and finally start livin’
He unfolded the list that he kept in his dresser
Should he learn the guitar or volunteer at the shelter?
The pain in his chest knocked him down to the floor
The ER was sorry they couldn’t do any more
He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck
Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement
He promised someday he would really start kickin’
But he up and died before he ever started livin’
They planted him in the family plot
Along with the list that he never checked off
An ordinary man who was full of potential
Just a cold gray slab marking inconsequential
He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck
Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement
He promised someday he would really start kickin’
But he up and died before he ever started livin’
Life doesn’t start when you retire
Or when the kids move out or when you finally arrive
Chase your passions now while you’re still able
‘Cause in case you haven’t heard; life is fatal
He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck
Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement
He promised someday he would really start kickin’
But he up and died before he ever started livin’
