The overriding theme of this album is that the Church, especially the Western Church, has slowly drifted away from sound doctrine and instead has embraced a feel-good, ear-tickling, watered-down doctrine based on pop-psychology, self-improvement, and narcissism. I’m not saying this is true for all congregations, or even most. However, it seems to be true enough that this has become the image that is presented to unbelievers.

Since Satan Joined the Church There’s a famine in the land Nobody’s preaching the Word We traded truth for a lie All the lines have been blurred We swapped the gospel of Christ For the doctrine of man We gave up our holy ways For a mansion built on sand Paul is turning in his grave Peter’s crying from the hurt Truth’s been twisted inside out Since Satan joined the Church All we want is just more stuff We can’t seem to get enough We’ve been told if we only pray More will rain down from above People dying in the street While we plan our next event We’re all going to be devoured Unless we fall down and repent Paul is turning in his grave Peter’s crying from the hurt Truth’s been twisted inside out Since Satan joined the Church Well we got to get back to what we used to be Before the first thing we asked is; “What’s in it for me?” When the reason we were there was to worship and to praise our God Back before the church became a concert hall When the bible was preached and that was all God’s hasn’t changed he’s still on the throne Let’s forsake the world and turn back home Paul is turning in his grave Peter’s crying from the hurt Truth’s been twisted inside out Since Satan joined the Church

Sunday Morning Christian He’s got a Bible on his dresser keeps it next to his change He thinks it’s NIV (or is it King James?) You see he’s not really sure ‘cause it’s been a long time Since he opened it up to see what’s inside He’s a riot at work, tells the best dirty jokes Fits right in with the regular folks Goes home a little early when the boss ain’t around They don’t pay him enough anyhow But on Sunday morning he’s up bright and early Grabs his wife and kids - out the door in a hurry Gotta’ get to the church before the back row’s jammed Cause he’s the first one out the door after the last amen Sunday morning Christian He surfs the dark side of the web when his family’s asleep Ain’t hurting nobody, ain’t looking to cheat Just getting a thrill in his dreary day Nobody’s gonna find out anyway But on Sunday morning he’s up bright and early Grabs his wife and kids - out the door in a hurry Gotta’ get to the church before the back row’s jammed Cause he’s the first one out the door after the last amen Sunday morning Christian He might live like the Devil for six and a half days But on Sunday morning Jesus is the only way Sunday morning Christian He’s a Sunday morning Christian

Go Where the Lost are Found She never knew her daddy and her momma was mean Been living on the streets since she was fifteen Turning tricks is all she knows to survive One encounter with Jesus would change her life Jesus loved the sinners and the prostitutes He cared for the sick and the destitute If we wana’ walk on holy ground We gotta’ go where the lost are found We gotta’ go where the lost are found He’s got a cardboard mansion on the bank of the stream Hangs out with his best friends Jack and Jim Beam Another heart breaking story that will never be known Another child of God that the world gave up on Jesus loved the sinners and the prostitutes He cared for the sick and the destitute If we wana’ walk on holy ground We gotta’ go where the lost are found We gotta’ go where the lost are found Our Christian walk is incomplete Till we take His love out to the street We’re called to be His hands and feet We may be the only Jesus they ever meet Jesus loved the sinners and the prostitutes He cared for the sick and the destitute If we wana’ walk on holy ground We gotta’ go where the lost are found We gotta’ go where the lost are found

Don’t Ask God I searched the scriptures and I prayed to God for direction in my life. I wanted worth and purpose; to be used for His delight. He told me what I should do next but it sounded kinda` scary So I figured I’d wait for a little while then maybe I’d be ready So I killed some time and I waited for the guts to move ahead Told a friend about my worries and this is what he said Don’t ask God to light your way If you’re not willing to walk the path Don’t ask God to guide your life If you’re not set to stay on track Don’t ask God to take the wheel If you’re not ready to ride the backseat Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps If you’re not willing to move your feet I searched the scriptures and I prayed to God for direction in my life. I wanted worth and purpose; to be used for His delight. I believe I heard just what he said but it sounded kind of tough. I thought I knew a better way that wouldn’t be so rough. So I traveled down the path I’d found, but I couldn’t get ahead. Told a friend about my dilemma, and this is what he said Don’t ask God to light your way If you’re not willing to walk the path Don’t ask God to guide your life If you’re not set to stay on track Don’t ask God to take the wheel If you’re not ready to ride the backseat Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps If you’re not willing to move your feet So I traveled down the path I’d found, but I couldn’t get ahead. Told a friend about my dilemma, and this is what he said He said Don’t ask God to light your way If you’re not willing to walk the path Don’t ask God to guide your life If you’re not set to stay on track Don’t ask God to take the wheel If you’re not ready to ride the backseat Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps If you’re not willing to move your feet

Up and Died 03:45
Up and Died His feet hit the floor before the sun lit the sky Been saving for this day his whole predictable life He got the gold watch now there’s no more wishin’ Time to dust off his dreams and finally start livin’ He unfolded the list that he kept in his dresser Should he learn the guitar or volunteer at the shelter? The pain in his chest knocked him down to the floor The ER was sorry they couldn’t do any more He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement He promised someday he would really start kickin’ But he up and died before he ever started livin’ They planted him in the family plot Along with the list that he never checked off An ordinary man who was full of potential Just a cold gray slab marking inconsequential He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement He promised someday he would really start kickin’ But he up and died before he ever started livin’ Life doesn’t start when you retire Or when the kids move out or when you finally arrive Chase your passions now while you’re still able ‘Cause in case you haven’t heard; life is fatal He pawned his passion for a steady paycheck Traded his dreams for a secure arrangement He promised someday he would really start kickin’ But he up and died before he ever started livin’

WISDOM OF THE PAGES Worry sneaks inside my head and steals away my peace Trouble pins me to the wall and won’t let me go free My perfect plans disintegrate; life slams me on the ground So I turn to the place where my answer’s always found When my mind gets in a bind and I don’t know what to do When the world tries to trip me up and twist my point of view I know I’ll find my comfort in the Book of Ages He’ll lead me to the truth in the wisdom of the pages Ain’t nobody got it easy even when it seems they do They’re pushing through life’s struggles same as me and you No one ever promised that our days would hold no grief But when we get knocked down there’s a place to find relief When my mind gets in a bind and I don’t know what to do When the world tries to trip me up and twist my point of view I know I’ll find my comfort in the Book of Ages He’ll lead me to the truth in the wisdom of the pages When my mind gets in a bind and I don’t know what to do When the world tries to trip me up and twist my point of view I know I’ll find my comfort in the Book of Ages He’ll lead me to the truth in the wisdom of the pages I never could find my peace of mind staring at a TV screen And wisdom wasn’t waiting at the bottom of Jim Beam When my mind gets in a bind and I don’t know what to do When the world tries to trip me up and twist my point of view I know I’ll find my comfort in the Book of Ages He’ll lead me to the truth in the wisdom of the pages

THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN there's just some things that I don't understand don't know how they can be like when cancer takes a mother from her kids but a killer gets to walk free or when a godly man who's living his life right ain't got a penny to his name but a crooked politician on the hill gets to live life like a king it seems the whole world has been turned upside down you'd think the good Lord would turn it back around there's answers that will never quite unfold there's just some things that we will never know some mysteries we'll never understand this side of heaven a little boy bruised and beaten for a spill to him the world just makes no sense a runaway girl caught up on the wicked streets forced to sell herself in self defense or how one man's torn religion says its a good thing for another man to die or when Christians will not turn the other cheek they want an eye for an eye it seems the whole world has been turned upside down you'd think the good Lord would turn it back around there's answers that will never quite unfold there's just some things that we will never know some mysteries we'll never understand this side of heaven

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW There’s a hurricane that blew in off coast of Jersey Shore Turned out to be a whole lot worse than anything before Little Kim in North Korea is about to launch the bomb And the radicals in bean town blew up the marathon But I’m not the least bit worried Cause I’ve read the final line And the forecast for tomorrow… God reigns and the Son shines Putin took Crimea back from the Ukraine The talking heads on TV don’t do nothing but complain The zealots in the Middle East are up in arms again If I tried to list everything gone wrong this song would never end But I’m not the least bit worried Cause I’ve read the final line And the forecast for tomorrow… God reigns and the Son shines You can listen to the cynics predict the falling sky You can tune in as the newsman says we’re all about to die But I’m not the least bit worried Cause I’ve read the final line And the forecast for tomorrow… God reigns and the Son shines

about

Since Satan Joined the Church

The overriding theme of this album is that the Church, especially the Western Church, has slowly drifted away from sound doctrine and instead has embraced a feel-good, ear-tickling, watered-down doctrine based on pop-psychology, self-improvement, and narcissism. I’m not saying this is true for all congregations, or even most. However, it seems to be true enough that this has become the image that is presented to unbelievers.

The title track, “Since Satan Joined the Church,” describes how far the modern church has strayed from its roots in Acts and even how much it has wandered from its protestant founding.

The next song, “Six Flags Over Jesus” is about how many of us choose our congregation by how convenient, comfortable, and entertaining it is.

“Sunday Morning Christian” expresses how many of us put on our “Christian mask” on Sunday morning only to take it off for the rest of the week.

“Go Where the Lost are Found” continues the theme of breaking free from the bondage of modern churchianity and embracing true Christianity in the form of doing the things Jesus said to do rather than just studying and talking about it.

The theme takes a slight turn on “Don’t Ask God.” This song is more about us and our struggle to follow Jesus and our reluctance to do so when it seems hard.

“Up and Died” takes that theme to the logical conclusion that if we keep putting off what God is calling us to do then eventually we will run out of time.

We are all struggling to find the answers to life’s questions. “Wisdom of the Pages” tells us where to look.

But regardless of how much we study the Word or how much we pray and seek answers, there are just some things we will never know or understand “This Side of Heaven.”

“Fell Down on my Knees” is a reminder of how simple it is to have a meaningful relationship with the Almighty.

There is no one righteous. We have all sinned. But “Every Sinner Has a Future” if they will just turn from their offensive ways toward a forgiving God ready to wrap his loving arms around them.

And no matter how stormy and turbulent things get in our world we have the hope of eternity because “The Forecast for Tomorrow” is; God reigns and the Son shines!
